It can be expensive if you subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Max, Apple TV+, Disney+, Paramount+, and Peacock all at once. To little surprise, streaming service Netflix has a large selection of horror films. But if you're looking for a noir mystery with Western overtones, Dark Winds is waiting for you on Max. A scary movie marathon is a great way to get in the Halloween spirit and celebrate the ghoulish holiday. Amazon Prime has premiered the second season of Robert Jordon's epic fantasy The Wheel of Time, while Netflix's adaptation of One Piece offers a lighter touch in the same genre. If last week's dual premieres of Star Wars: Ahsoka and Invasion season 2 made for a sci-fi-themed week, then the first weekend of September is all about fantasy. It’s not a perfect film by any means, but it’s definitely immersive and entertaining. All the Spooky Stuff Coming to Netflix for Halloween 2021 Per usual, the streaming service has a ton of scary movies and TV shows on the way this spooky season. Based on the 2014 Josh Malerman novel of the same name, Bird Box presents an engaging concept that branches off into many exciting directions, and Sandra Bullock commands a relatable lead role. But in order to live, the trio must traverse a destroyed world without their ability to see. And as an added bonus, very few horror movies will leave to haunt elsewhere during the Halloween festivities unless you consider Tom Hanks hairdo in The Da. Five years after the presence first emerges, Malorie Hayes (Sandra Bullock), who’s caring for two children (one of which is her own), seeks salvation with the two kids, played by Vivien Lyra Blair and Julian Edwards. The Conjuring One of the modern new era classic horror films, it’s the original that launched an entire cinematic horror universe, and for good reason. In Bird Box, the story is about a world devastated by an omnipotently horrific presence that, if witnessed, renders a person insane and forces them into suicide. Director Susanne Bier’s 2018 genre film Bird Box was released the same year as Jon Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, and both films deal with similar narrative threads - primarily, a reliance on humanity’s keen senses as a means for survival on a near-apocalyptic Planet Earth.
